4 perish in Shurugwi road accident

On Monday evening, four people died  on the spot and four others were injured after their Toyota Wish car went off the road and collided with a tree on the Shurugwi-Zvishavane Highway. Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the Midlands regional police spokeswoman, confirmed the collision on Wednesday.

"Police confirm a fatal road traffic accident where four people died on the spot on May 6 at around 6pm at the 43km peg along the Gweru-Zvishavane Road in Shurugwi," Mahoko stated. "A Toyota Wish vehicle carrying seven passengers collided with a tree after straying off the road. "The driver, Trymore Mapolisa (47) was driving the vehicle towards Shurugwi. When he reached the 43 km mark, he lost control of the vehicle, which veered off to the left and collided with a tree.

According to Mahoko, the bodies of the deceased were transported to Shurugwi District facility mortuary, while the injured were admitted to the same facility. He stated that the names of the deceased would be disclosed once their next of kin had been notified.
