Police in Harare have arrested a Warren Park D man for reportedly damaging 83 tombstones at Warren Hills Cemetery.
Gilbert Mukandatsamba (34) was remanded in detention by Harare magistrate Caroline Matanga until May 16 for a medical assessment after appearing in court last weekend.
According to the State's case, Taengwa Mataukwa, a City of Harare patrol officer, began his night shift at the cemetery on April 15 and discovered that 83 graves had been vandalized and tombstones smashed.
The court heard that Mukandatsamba was caught on May 2 after returning to the graveyard, purportedly to demolish more graves.
The total worth of the demolished graves is $45,000.
