Next term will see the opening of a NEW primary school that was constructed in the Khwalu 2 area of Beitbridge, Matabeleland South region, using devolution monies. Two classroom blocks have been finished thus far, and work is currently being done on the restrooms and related amenities. Since then, Beitbridge Town Council has used roughly $18 million of its 2022 devolution funding to construct the two school buildings. According to town clerk Mr. Loud Ramakgapola, the ablution facilities are now being completed. "We now intend to open during this year's second term." Alfred Beit Primary, the new elementary school, was named for the foundation that constructed the first bridge connecting South Africa and Zimbabwe in 1935. The council has only had two schools—Dulivhadzimu Primary School and Vhembe High School—since the 1980s. Most of the town's schools should become less crowded after Alfred Beit Primary School is built. In order to handle the town's expanding population, Beitbridge mayor councillor Peter Pirato Mafuta recently stated that the local administration also intends to use devolution funding to develop more schools. "The new school will soon open its doors as two classroom blocks have already been completed and construction on ablution facilities has begun," he stated. It is understood by Vaka Newspaper that the town needs two more secondary schools in addition to four primary schools. A elementary school should ideally be present in the town for every 5,000 pupils. In Beitbridge, there are now six elementary and three secondary schools. A portion of the town's devolutionary money have also been utilized to purchase earthmoving machinery for use in construction and road maintenance, as well as stand servicing. Beitbridge improved its Local Authorities Digital Systems for budget formulation, purchased solar power backup systems, digitalized its systems, and built a new clinic with money from previous year's allocation. The municipality intends to purchase a 20 000-liter bowser, a tipper, a 12-ton roller compactor, and an ambulance this year in addition to building a polyclinic and 25 two-room dwellings. In addition, it plans to purchase tow trucks, install public lighting, and build two boreholes at key locations. Beitbridge's service delivery has been progressively better as long as the government keeps funding capital projects under the devolution program.
