Harare-Chirundu Highway upgrade commences….set for completion mid-2025

THE upgrade of the Harare-Chirundu Highway whose groundbreaking was held this morning at Mapinga shopping centre 60km west of Harare, is expected to be completed by July 2025.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development Felix Mhona, who presided over the event, reaffirmed the government's commitment to using locally generated funds to satisfy contemporary and international road standards.

Today, Cde Felix Tapiwa Mhona, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, breaks ground on the Harare-Chirundu highway restoration and widening project in Mapinga.

He declared that the government would make sure the road construction would be finished in the allotted amount of time.

The scope, according to Eng Joy Makumbe, permanent secretary of the Ministry, is widening and resurfacing the road in addition to rebuilding any damaged sections entirely.

Marian Chombo, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West, urged the hired businesses to hire locals.

Tensor Systems, Bitumen, Masimba Contractors, Fossil, and Exodus and Company are the five contractors who will be working on the roadway, with an average distance of 68 kilometers per contractor.

A budget of at least US$550 million has been set aside for the completion of the road.
